wanna go for a swim?

A while back during my time as a single I came across a handful of guys who were kinda lame.  I know that seems mean, but allow me to explain.  They were just very passive men who didn’t pursue me.  Ok, so I see how that sounds…maybe they weren’t lame, maybe they just weren’t interested!  Anyhow, during this time Holly made a comment to me regarding the male pursuit that stuck with me.

She said, “You want a guy who would swim through shark-infested waters to bring you a glass of lemonade because you’re thirsty.”

Great-White-SharksWOW. That seemed pretty intense, but I liked the underlying meaning. She was basically saying I wanted a guy who would be willing to face grave danger in order to make me happy and provide for my needs.  So true! That was what I wanted!

So now that I have my Mr. Wonderful, I have to ask him (though I already know the answer): Are you willing to swim shark-infested waters to bring me a drink?

what not to do before a first date

Earlier this year I was asked out on a date. It went something like this:

(Ping – new text message notification sound)

Anonymous Texter (AT): Bianca?

Me: Who is this?

AT: It’s me Bob* You know  the guy you met today while I was at the house installing the _____ *.

Me: Oh! Well hi, and yes this is Binky.

Bob: So what are you up to?

Me: (Hesitating and trying to think how AT got my number…)

I phone a friend for support. Hey, you know AT right?

Friend: Well, I’ve worked with him, but I don’t really know him. He seems nice and I’ve heard nice things about him. I wouldn’t worry – I don’t think he’s like a stalker or anything.

Hmmmm…she’s using the word stalker already. This cannot be good.

AT: I got your number from the front gate – they gave it to me because you’re my contact for that house this week.

Me: Oh, yeah.  Well, not much – I am just watching a movie and playing with the dog.  What about you?

AT: Same thing.  So I was wondering…

Me: Yeah????

AT: You seem really cool and I was wondering if you might like to go out sometime?

Me: Ummm…sure, that would be cool.

AT: Really?!!?!?  Ok, so when can I pick you up for a date?

Me: Well, I have Wednesday or Friday free this week.

AT: Great! Let’s do both!  OMG – I can’t wait to pick you up.  So what are some things you like to do??!?!

Me: Whoa. Umm…why don’t we just pick one of those days and see how things turn out? I’d hate for us to get ahead of ourselves…you know?

AT: Oh, ok.  Sure.  So can I come get you at 7pm on Wednesday? What are some of your favorite things to do?

Me: Sure.  I like to do lots of different things, mostly I just hang out with friends, go to church activities, I like movies and bookstores.

AT: Great!  Well I can’t wait to pick you up!  I haven’t been out on a date in a while, so this is so great!!!!

It progressed from here – he continued to text me like a young high school boy and eventually I told him that I was going to have to cancel.  Partly because I was interested in someone else at the time, but also – I have to admit – he kinda scared me with his(what I called) over-enthusiasm.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m glad he was making it known he was interested in me, but I think he was just coming on a little too strong!  But maybe I should have know he was a man of excess from the start…after all, he did have a little too much hair gel on his hair…

*Names and identifying characteristics have been changed to protect the identity of those involved…or at least I tried to change the info, some I just couldn’t not mention!

are you my boyfriend?

to-you-u-know-who-you-r

There’s this book. It’s called, Are You My Boyfriend. I like it.  It describes several types of guys and let’s you decide which one best suites your current boyfriend.  I like it because since I don’t currently have a boyfriend, I can choose whomever I like and I can change my choice as often as I want – all the while never having to worry about being called a hussy.

There’s one problem with the book though, and that’s that it doesn’t include all the possible types of guys there are.  May I suggest the following descriptions be added to make this book a perfect companion:

The super-friendly guy

He always so excited to run in to you. Hello! How ARE you?  He makes you feel like you’re something special, afterall you always feel like you are getting preferential treatment.  He likes to hug you hello and goodbye, he will find you in a crowd and become a permanent side fixture and you don’t mind because he’s so good looking. The only problem is – that’s all he is.  He’s friendly and good looking.  So he’s my boy friend, but not my boyfriend. read more »
