I’ll admit it – I’m not ashamed. I’m a HUGE Martha fan. I’ve read the bio, I’ve made the recipes, I’ve created the crafts…in fact, at my old job I was nicknamed Martita (meaning, little Martha). I’ve even dreamed of working with her. Really. So with that being said, it should be no surprise that I sign up for her email updates. My favorite one by far is her Organizing Tip of the Day. While it may not always be a hit with me – I always open the email to read what it is.
This week Martha ’s Organizing Tip gave me a great idea for this From the Editors. In her tip she suggests 6 essential tasks to complete every day. Being the slave to lists that I am, I had to check it out. Here is what she propses be done everyday:
- Make the bed.
- Manage clutter.
- Sort the mail.
- Clean as you cook.
- Wipe up spills while they’re fresh.
- Sweep the kitchen floor.
Ok, those aren’t as lofty as some of her other suggestions, but I think for anyone with children, or a consistently busy schedule – these tasks could be a little far from reach. Because I love to interject my opinion, I thought I’d update Martha’s list for the REAL person. You’re welcome!
- Put all your pillows back on your bed every morning. If you have time, or motivation, go ahead and smooth out the comforter on top of everything.
- Hide clutter.
- Check the mail.
- Cook in the microwave and clean what you can while your meal is heating.
- Wipe up spills while they’re still fresh (this one I have to agree on, otherwise you’ll think I’m a filthy pig!)
- Pick up any large obstacles on the kitchen floor, specifically ones you may trip on and curse at as a result.
Happy Organizing!
