washcloths versus loofahs

As far back as I can remember I have used a loofah (or sponge thingy) in the shower. Well, that is until about 4 years ago. I’m not sure what prompted the change to washcloths, perhaps it was the fun color scheme of the bundle, or the way they were folded, stacked and bound by a cute ribbon. Whatever the case I made the switch and now I can’t go back.
Something about the loofah seems lazy to me, it’s not quite thorough enough. Sure you get a wicked lather going, but you don’t gain much in the way of actual scrubbing. Really your just pushing those suds all over your body surface area. So are you really getting clean??
My mind has led me to believe that no, you aren’t.
Using a washcloth requires way more effort to get a good sud going, but the effort is rewarded with a clear conscious and clean skin! There are areas a loofah could never compete with; like behind your ears or between your toes. Plus, you can wash and reuse a washcloth over and over and they have so many other uses outside of the shower.
Try using a loofah to clean the countertop!
Hubs is a loofah lover, but I’m sold that washcloths are a much more effective way to get clean. I’m on a mission to convert him…
So which do YOU think is better: the washcloth or the loofah?

coffee cup irony

I recently visited a well known coffee establishment and ordered a hot tea, since I’m traditionally not a coffee drinker.  Below is a photo of said tea.

I had a bit of a chuckle at the irony of the recycled cup boasting what a  good deed I had (unintentionally) done by using it. How is that ironic? If you look closely you’ll see it was actually two cups stacked inside one another (purposefully).  I guess my good deed was outweighed by my excess so I’m back where I started?

oxymoronic frozen dinners

Before I was married I was sustained by frozen dinners. Truthfully I loved cooking even then, but honestly let’s admit that cooking in and of itself was never meant to be done “for one.” Sometimes even cooking for two yields too many leftovers, but since I love leftovers, you won’t really hear me complaining.

Even now that I have two to cook for, I still like to keep a small supply of frozen dinners on hand for my lunch, or for nights when I don’t feel like cooking. Today, being busy at work, I decided to make one for lunch. In fact, this is the exact meal I was making:

I opened the box, took out the tray, and turned the box over to read the instructions.

Make a slit over the side item, but not the entree.

Then cook for 2 minutes.

Then uncover the entree side and spoon juices over entree.

Leave side item alone.

Cook for additional 2 minutes.

Now stir side item.

Stir entree.

Continue heating for 1 to 2 minutes more.

Let sit for an additional 2 minutes after cooking before removing film…

Do a cartwheel. Do yoga. Do advanced calculus.

Upside down.

In a pool.

I mean, come on! Isn’t the very nature of a frozen meal to offer me easy eating??? When did frozen meals get so complicated? I feel more like I just jumped through hoops similar to those of a 3 course meal! Granted the timing was a tad shorter, but the instructions were far more complicated.

And don’t even get me started on the children’s frozen meals… I used to make those for the boys when I worked as a nanny and those things could take up to 20 minutes each what with all the “take this out while you heat this and then put that back in but take that out then heat all together, except for that…” Good grief! I’m glad I never tossed the boxes right after opening them (actually I did  do that the very first time I made them for the boys, only to fish it out 45 seconds later)!

Eventually I just abandoned my meal on the stovetop because I got called back to work.  After all, this was supposed to be a quick & easy lunch. About 10 minutes later I made it back to the kitchen to resume my eating.

Only to find my meal had gone cold.

Back to the microwave we go…me and my simple frozen meal.

a spoonful of sugar

So I was thinking about Mary Poppins the other day and how she famously sang, “Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down…”

And it got me thinking…did she mean a literal spoonful of sugar? Because honestly I can’t imagine that helps anything go down. It’s so dry and rough – you’d choke trying to swallow that! Perhaps that was the point? That after trying to choke it down the medicine would be awesome by comparison! It’s Freudian at best, but it works.

Or did she mean more like a spoonful of sugar taste (as in a a sugary liquid)? Because this would help the medicine go down.

Although truthfully it would have to be 2 spoonfuls of sugar – one before the meds and one after, to wash the taste away…

If given the choice, I’d definitely go with option number 2. Now I just have to figure out what sugary liquid it would be…

I also need to figure our why thoughts like these consume my mind!
