pride defined

“We think we are God and we refuse to acknowledge our need and dependence…not just occasionally, and not just under certain circumstances, but at all times and in every sphere – marriage, work, neighborhood, home – pride is our greatest enemy.”

“By far this is the most difficult thing, to keep a people hungry and humble before a living God when everything around you looks successful. That’s what makes difficulty such a beautiful thing. It keeps you humble before God, it keeps you crying out. That’s why health and wealth and prosperity can be such damning things. God opposes the proud. Are you hearing that? “I am against you.” But He gives grace to the humble, to the hungry, to the lowly in estate…It has always been and it will always be this way, that God will exalt the lowly and He will work against and bring low the haughty, in church, out of church, in pulpits, out of pulpits, in the workplace, out of the workplace. ”

consider this:

Why is baby poop (frequently) avocado green and adult poop is (generally) brown?*

*Note: I work with children under the age of 5 almost daily and therefore am exposed to seeing and wiping poop on a regular basis, making this a fair consideration for me to have.

Is it more likely that your car will be vandalized (or stolen) from a ghetto neighborhood, or a rich one?

newly proposed national holiday

While I was drifting off to a nap this afternoon I had the most fabulous idea…(note: MOST of my mind-writing occurs as I’m falling asleep, which is quite inconvenient since I’ve usually turned my computer off and am in the bed at that point…thus I lose a lot of good material that way. I’ll fix that just as soon as Brittany gives me that audio recorder she says she never uses anymore…) of a new holiday we should impose in this country.

Might I also add that this new holiday would boost the economy, since apparently that’s all businesses are talking about these days.  What is it?

National SAVE 25% today! Can you imagine a day when EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING that you purchased was 25% off? Cars, electronics, food, clothes, whatever!  Well, there would be some limitations – like maybe new houses or school tuition. I think both of those should be part of the “exclusions” clause. The houses because that just seems like a HUGE chunk of money into something that you should be willing to pay for if you are building a new house (but old houses I think that might be ok…well maybe not) and the school tuition because I didn’t get 25% off and I’d be bitter if here I am still paying on my loans and someone comes along and gets 25% off what they owe for that semester. Besides, school is more like a bill – and bills should not fall under this holiday that is promoting consumerism.  Furthermore, if I’m the one proposing the law I think it’s only reasonable to think I would make it cater to my own wants.

So you could get a $40,000 car for only $30,000 – that’s awesome!  And you can get a new TV for 3/4 of the price! Is it just me, or is this idea simply genius?

Ok, I do recognize there are some MINOR details to work out – such as the stores selling this stuff that we’re seeking to get 25% off of.  It’s basically re-creating the Black Friday mob, however, it’s ALL day, not just at the obscenely early hours of the morning. And yes the lines would be long, and stuff might sell out, but companies could have tons of inventory. Or, an even more customer service friendly idea is that the companies can offer an IOU to the customers to return when it’s available while still honoring the 25% off deal, or (if they want to go one step further) the company can have it shipped (for free of course) to the customer’s house.

But really that’s the only problem I see.  And I do realize I have a limited line of sight, especially on my own ideas. So we enact a holiday that is basically one big, national coupon and we go shop. Oh, and we get the day off work too. Because what real good is there in a national holiday if you don’t have the day off to enjoy it? Unless you work retail. In which case people will be coming to your work to do their shopping… In that case you get time and a half for willing to work on a national holiday and you don’t have to work any more than 8 hours.  Yeah, I’m generous in my law making like that : )
