are all farts created equal?

Bianca, since we all eat the same food, does that mean that all of our farts smell the same?

This question was posed to me today – by who shall remain a secret, though I must admit it’s a rather ingenious question.  I mean, that seems like it would be so – if we eat the same foods, then wouldn’t our gaseous releases smell similar?  I am not sure I want to do all the testing that is required to find out it this is in fact true – but maybe someone else knows.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

  1. Hmm interesting question

  2. The answer is NO – definitely not equal. Definitely not.

  3. Just surfed in and saw this question. My answer is no. Our bodies are all different and just like how some people can eat certain foods that others can’t, our bodies are going to respond differently to food.

I’d imagine that we’d have to have been eating the exact same food in the exact same proportions for many many years for our farts to smell the same. We’d also probably have to be exact duplicates of each other since all our internal organs and chemical makeups are going to be different across the board.

Wow… didn’t realize I had so much to say on farting. :) Who knew?
