Choosing Flowers for my Bridesmaids

Since the wedding will be a backyard wedding, I wanted to stick to simple flowers for the girls. The natural beauty will be plentiful and it’s one of the main reasons Thomas and I chose to go with green as our accent color – it would be easy to add simple green flowers to the wedding!

The first bouquet I came across was very simple, but I liked that.  I tried it out by holding it in my hands, but I realized that I’m much smaller than any of my bridesmaids – in fact I’m pretty sure I’m a good 6 inches shorter than my shortest bridesmaid!  So I knew I’d have to get their input as well!

Lucky for me I decided to throw get-togethers every 6 to 8 weeks for me and my bridesmaids so everyone can get to know each other better and so I can spend some quality time with my girls!  On our first night I brought my bouquet idea and made every girl stand up and try it out.  Amber, my maid of honor, was wearing all black, so she became the most realistic model, since the girls dresses will be black.

Overall we decided 2 things about the first bouquet idea: One, it was too plain/small for all the girls and two, it wasn’t worth what it cost. Oh, and the other thing – the girls kept calling it an artichoke! Hmmm…NOT what I was thinking for a wedding bouquet!

Ok! On to the next option.  A few days later Amber and I were out and about and we stopped by World Market.  While we were there I decided to go ahead and look at their flower selection.  Imagine my surprise when I found some beautiful hydrangeas in bright green that were cheaper than the flowers I found at Hobby Lobby!  Again, Amber was the model.

We decided that one bloom could be enough for the girls to carry and they’d be easy to manage – we’re only wrapping one stem!  So Amber ran off to get a cart and we loaded it up with Hydrangeas!  They also had white ones, and I snatched up 3 to create my bouquet!

When I compared the two options side-by-side I definitely liked the second option much better (so did Amber)! I hope the girls will love them too!

Flower Mission Accomplished!  (Thanks for being the best model ever, Amber!) Now if I could just find the green berries I need for Thomas’ boutonnieres…

are all farts created equal?

Bianca, since we all eat the same food, does that mean that all of our farts smell the same?

This question was posed to me today – by who shall remain a secret, though I must admit it’s a rather ingenious question.  I mean, that seems like it would be so – if we eat the same foods, then wouldn’t our gaseous releases smell similar?  I am not sure I want to do all the testing that is required to find out it this is in fact true – but maybe someone else knows.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

wanna go for a swim?

A while back during my time as a single I came across a handful of guys who were kinda lame.  I know that seems mean, but allow me to explain.  They were just very passive men who didn’t pursue me.  Ok, so I see how that sounds…maybe they weren’t lame, maybe they just weren’t interested!  Anyhow, during this time Holly made a comment to me regarding the male pursuit that stuck with me.

She said, “You want a guy who would swim through shark-infested waters to bring you a glass of lemonade because you’re thirsty.”

Great-White-SharksWOW. That seemed pretty intense, but I liked the underlying meaning. She was basically saying I wanted a guy who would be willing to face grave danger in order to make me happy and provide for my needs.  So true! That was what I wanted!

So now that I have my Mr. Wonderful, I have to ask him (though I already know the answer): Are you willing to swim shark-infested waters to bring me a drink?

stick it to me

I drive a 5-speed Honda. I love it. I love driving fast (when I’m alone in the car) and something about shifting gears quickly kinda gives me a facade that I’m a speedster racing to and fro.

I think driving a stick is something every driver should be able to do, though I have to admit, I’d never loan my car to someone who was wanting to learn.  Which is kinda ironic since that’s how I learned…on someone elses car.  Actually it was a friend of a friend’s car – and that friend of my friend happened to be out of town…shhhhhh, don’t tell.

There are really only 2 times I kinda regret having a 5 speed: when I’m stuff in stop and go traffic and when I’m on a road trip with friends and we’re taking my car (which rarely happens).

Oh, I suppose there is one other time I’m kinda annoyed with my manual transmission.  It usually happens when I take the car in for maintenance, or when another person, who isn’t a frequent stick shift driver, uses my car.  A word of advice to those people:

Do NOT park my car in GEAR. You park it in neutral and then pull the emergency brake.  ANy other way usually leaves the owner of the car startled when they start the car and release the clutch, not to mention a little peeved that they just stalled out their own car.

I know several stick shift owners who tell me the same thing happens to them whenever they loan the car to another driver.  It never fails to surprise me even though I know time and time again the places it happens most. I guess I’m just so used to getting in and doing all the star up motions on autopilot that I don’t always take time to make sure my car is in neutral. So do me a favor…just park it in neutral and pull the brake up.  I know it’s not natural to you to do that, but try to step in my shoes.  Because otherwise, next time I get to drive an automatic, I might just be tempted to park it my way.
